  ARCHIVED NEWS: JUNE 2002

29 June, 2002
Those of you who ordered the 1.4.0. Productions album, it's being sent out next week. 1.4.0.'s also hinted that there may be some extras in the mail too (photos etc.) free of charge.
Currently he's working on a few projects, one of which the debut album from Ghost's Theodore Unit. I should have more news on that in the near future.
Yahoo has a habit of sending through blank emails once in a while. If you've emailed me something and I didn't reply, it's usually because I had nothing to read. So please send it again - I'm not trying to be a snob.
Props: 1.4.0. Productions

Albums: Still Standing, Albums: Nightmares That Surface From The Shallow Sleep, Albums: Smuggling Booze In The Graveyard, Reviews: Nightmare In A-Minor, Reviews: Beneath The Surface, added a new pic of Raekwon to the Image Gallery #1.
Regarding yesterday's post on the PYN record party release. It's at a place called The Lab in Brooklyn NY, starting at 7PM. All record label distributors, promoters of any kind, and radio personalities are invited to attend. As for the in store record signing, I still don't have a time for that. So if anyone lives near Backstreet Records and is interested in going, they're probably the best person to talk to right now.
The Proverbs Music website is down. Seeings how it did nothing to do start with, I wonder I wonder why they even bothered to upload it?

Click here if you want to see the real album cover for Protect Ya Neck Collection #1. Speaking of which if you want to pick up an autographed copy of that album, Protect Ya Neck Records frontman Ice Grillz will be at Backstreet Records in Brooklyn NY on July 2. The release party is happening the day after and I'm sure Ice Grillz will provide more info on that day when he's in store on the 2nd. I'll find out what time as well, the guy forgot to tell me.
The Deadly Venoms album is out now. Amazon has posted sample clips as usual if you're interested.
Check back tomorrow for more updates.

19 June, 2002
Just finished all my exams at last. I'm still ironing out some issues about the "School Yard Funk Art" album so I won't have the details until the next update. But here's an interview with a promotion manager of Empire Musicwerks conducted by Cno Evil. It sheds some light on the Frukwan album:

1) Who's featured?
It's all Frukwan with vocals from Kenyata (aka) Lady Tigra on "Ready for War" & "What da Fu*k" plus background vocals by Maraj on "Frukwan" & "Life".
2) Release?
The album will not be released this year. For the most part it's finished but there will be some tweaking done.
3) First singles/videos?
The first promo vinyl single will probably be "2 to Da Head" with "Times R Hard" on the b-side (my 2 favorite cuts on the album). The first commercial single should be "Life" and if there is a video (which is
seeming pretty definite) it will be "Life" also.
4) Producers? Remixes?
The album was entirely written & produced by Frukwan himself except for "It Gets Deep" which was produced by DBC (of Stetsasonic). There will be remixes done of certain tracks. A remix of the track "Life" has already been done by Lucky Calhoun of the Atlanta Hip Hop group The Calhouns(look for their album on 8/20).
5) Next projects? Other re-releases?
In the future I am sure we will be putting out more Frukwan solo albums and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up guesting on some of our other artists albums. Unfortunately I think that's it for the Gravediggaz. As for the other Echo International Wu albums I haven't heard of any plans to re-release them so chances are - but we have a tight relationship with Echo so you never know.

Check back soon for more updates.

Unfortunately Tripod has deleted virtually all of my Real Audios. I knew this was coming so I do apologise. Hopefully I can find a proper server in future in which to house them.
On another note, I'll have the ordering details for "School Yard Funk Art #1" posted next week. Right now I'm busy with uni exams so stay tuned.

Covers: Finesse & Synquis ("Soul Sisters" Front + Back). Big thanks to MagicFingaz for hooking me up with those.
Still on Deadly Venoms, here's an article which talks about the group and their new album. The group may now be just Deadly Venom (not Venoms), and are minus one member (the aforementioned Finesse). Click here if you're interested - I don't know the article's original source.

13. My House [3:04]

15. Outro [3:11]

I don't think there's any guest spots on this album, so it's a true solo. If you're interested in hearing snippets then click this link: http://www.empiremusicwerks.com/artists.htm.

The second tracklisting is the upcoming Deadly Venoms album "Still Standing" (on Caroline

The tracklisting for "School Yard Funk Art" which I posted yesterday actually has an uncredited 19th track by Lighter Shade.
I have the front anf back covers to Finesse and Synquis' "Soul Sisters" album released way back in 1988, which I'll post in my next update. They're pretty damn hard to find, so check back soon for them.
Finally, some updates once again to the Release Dates.

I'll have a review of "Terra Iz Him" as soon as I receive my copy.
Not too long ago, Othorized F.A.M.'s producer, 1.4.0. released an album called "School Yard Funk Art: Volume #1". It heavily featured the F.A.M. on all new songs (bar one), with guest spots from various artists native to Staten Island. The tracklisting goes:

1. Intro Beat
2. Freestyle (Molly Q)
3. Everything U Need (Crunch Lo & Samantha)
4. New York (Othorized F.A.M., Lighter Shade & Hos Clocks)
5. Game Over (Lace)
6. We In The Realm (Lighter Shade & Crunch Lo)
7. Let It Bang (Franky Bottz, Molly Q & Lighter Shade)
8. Knee Deep In Some Ass (C-Wiggs)
9. Yesterday (C-Wiggs & Lenore)
10. My Way (Franky Bottz & Italy)
11. Lock N Load (S.O.D. Chapel & Wise)
12. One On One (C-Wiggs & Crunch Lo)
13. Life's Been Good To Me (C-Wiggs & Toilet)
14. Revelations (Cheesey Rat, Diverse & Crunch Lo)
15. Hypnotized (House Track) (Lenore)
16. New York Broadway (Lighter Shade)
17. Staten Islanders (Othorized F.A.M.)
18. Outro Beat

This album is part one of a two-album series. The second part will be released in approximately 2 - 3 months. It's completely produced and arranged by 140 Productions and is available for $15. I hope to have purchasing details soon. It's definately quite rare and one for the collectors. I've known about this project for some time but didn't know it was out until recently. If you're interested in the cover art for this album click these links: School Yard Funk Art (Front) * School Yard Funk Art (Back).
A new Deadly Venoms album is on the horizon called "Still Standing". It will come out on a label called "Rocks The World" which is distributed by EMI. Production is handled by Rocks The World Production and it's unlikely that the June 25th release date will be changed. So this will officially be their first album to be released. The first single "Remember The Name" is already getting airtime on Hot 97. A remix of this track is planned and will feature Kurupt.

Reviews: Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars, Reviews: Ghost Dog (Soundtrack) (Japan), Reviews: The Hell EP, Reviews: 1st Amendment, Release Dates (Protect Ya Neck Collection: Volume 1).
I am almost 100% sure that the Protect Ya Neck album is the same one which was released in Japan recently, possibly with a new cover. And judging by the artist line up, I'd say its mostly songs which we've heard before (most, but not all).
If you're interested in picking up an original copy of "Pretty Thugs" (Promotional CD) please contact Robert at pipotepipote@yahoo.es.
